My mommy has wanted to go to Charleston for a couple years so before she had to go back to work we headed there, Krayton had to work away so he couldn't come but at least it worked out perfectly that we left the same time and arrived home within minutes of each other. Let me tell you my child asks constantly to go in "Daddy car beep beep" I have a nice car actually a really nice car and yet he no longer wants to ride in mommy's car so the husband suggested we just take his massive vehicle. I am mildly spoiled in that I rarely drive myself and if i do it's not very far at all, and beyond that I never pump gas, so I was beyond nervous about driving 7 hours in my husband's car but it wasn't bad at all and my mom even said "your a good driver." Onto the fun.....
At the suggestion of a friend (Thanks Jess!!) the first night we arrived we walked to Jestine's Kitchen for dinner. UM YUM-O!!!!! I had the fried pork chopBlake had fries
and yes I ordered two desserts because I couldn't decide and they were both so so good (pumpkin bar and lemon pie)
It was chilly there, chilly enough that Blake actually didn't put up a fight when I put a hat on him.
The next morning breakfast at Hominy Grill, Blake enjoyed the bacon
The fire stations there were gorgeous, and we definitely have a soft spot for fire stations since my late Uncle Gary was a fire captain, believe it or don't but do you see that orb above Mommy and Blakey?
Cupcake
The trick to walking everywhere and expecting a two year to agree is to stop at parks along the way and let them run or as Blake says "run run run run run"
Our beautiful boy
Ok so Charleston I found is a food and shopping and house dreaming kind of town and boy o boy did we shop! I found three amazing dresses at this shop perfect for our upcoming Vegas trip, along with the most amazing headbands and candle. Which I plan to write about if I ever grow the kahunas enough to start up a new lifestyleish blog.
Lunch at Kickin Chicken so so good too
Blake loves to sign the receipts at restaraunts and actually always signs in the right spot I think he thinks he's being like Daddy
The next day we took at carriage tour and Blake was a trooper through all the history talk and mostly played with Buzz Lightyear, a transformer, and Mommy's sunglasses which I just kept hoping he didn't throw over the edge to be run over by a horse or car.
City Market, where a man was selling 100% raw shea butter, I had to get some and let me tell you its great stuff!
Park stop, battery park I think
A ladies man through and through
Charleston is really a beautiful place
The next day we headed to Mount Pleasant and went to Boone Plantation which we were not impressed with at all, maybe because we are jaded by Thomasville Plantations like the one we were married at but it just wasn't so great and definitely not child friendly. But Blake did enjoy this hiding spot inside a huge tree there
Now the Boone Farm Market is a different story our lunch there was great! I had the BLT and everything was fresh and delicious. Mommy had the fried green tomato panini and loved every bite.
On to the beach we went, Isle of Palms is just a few minutes from the plantation. Blake loved chasing the birds
And tearing whatever these are
So tired after all that beach running
Back in Charleston we headed to the Children's museum and it was great!!!! Blake had a blast!
Old firetruck and yet another orb
Ginormous legos
He took this empty box of cereal from the "grocery" play area and dropped it in the pirate treasure chest
The kid loves to build
I may have had an epiphany right here at this moment, we were there for an hour running and playing and had zero altercations of any kind no pushing, no hitting, good sharing BUT as he was running through the lobby he spotted a fridge with juice boxes which he grabbed and immediately opened and chugged in seconds. Before he had a chance to set it down he pushed a kid and then pushed another kid for no good reason! Was it the sugar rush from the juice he not accustomed to, was it exhaustion I don't know for sure but there was a shift and I am almost certain it was the sugar.
That night we had dinner at Jim N Nicks since it was right next to our hotel and boy were those biscuits good. I just wish I had bought the mix so I could make them at home :)
I loved this house, now I would never live there since I am sure there are some occupants of a different realm I would not want to share a residence with but I love a good southern house white with black shutters and gorgeous window boxes.
It was a great trip, I loved all the time I got to spend with my Mommy and most evenings after the baby was sleeping we just laughed together, talked and watched TV, does it get any better. It was also nice to know I can still drive and find my way around (with GPS of course) oh and pump gas :) There will for sure be more Mommy and Daughter trips in the future.
